What are the packet size, number of transmissions and timing limitations on the NB-IoT network?

We've had a developer ask about the limitations of data transmission on Telstra's Nb-IoT network.

Unlike other IoT technologies, our NB-IoT network does not place limitations on the message packet size, number of transmissions or timing of when you can send your messages.  The downlink is not as constrained as other network technology options. That said, if you have an application sending lots of information all the time, you have to ask yourself whether NB-IoT is the most appropriate technology choice for your application. High volume applications might be better suited to LTE-M, 4GX or even our new 5G network.     This is one of the benefits of the Telstra network, you have the flexibility of choosing the technology best suited to your application!

If you'd like to discuss your use case in more detail, let us know!

We ask that developments with our network comply with the Wireless Application Developers Guidelines for IoT and Our Customer Terms which can be found online here https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/consumer-advice/pdf/business-b/dataservices-m2m.pdf
